Carrie Underwood heads to Ft. Campbell

Carrie Underwood has been tapped for a special show honoring members of America's military.  She'll be headlining the Salute to the Troops Concert next month at Fort Campbell, Kentucky.  Jake Owen will also be a featured performer.  The event is part of Fort Campbell's Week of the Eagles, which recognizes the service of the 101st Airborne Division's Screaming Eagles.  The show will also serve as a welcome home celebration for the men and women of the 101st Airborne Division, who will be returning from their deployment in the Middle East.  The Salute to the Troops Concert will help launch the Week of the Eagles, which begins August 14th and continues through the 20th.

Tim & Faith perform at Country United

Country music's first couple will be in Washington D.C. this November to help support the nation's military.  According to CMT.com, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill will be performing at Country United: Advancing Medicine from the Frontlines to the Homefront.  The event takes place November 6th and 7th, and McGraw and Hill will serve as co-chairs.  All money raised will be used to help advance medical care and improve the quality of life for service members and civilians.  Hill will also provide the keynote address during the symposium on November 6th.  McGraw, whose father served as a Marine, says he's, quote, "honored to play a role in this very special event."

Sgt. Matthew Soper

I am the proud momma of Sgt. Matthew Ryan Soper, KIA 6/06/07. Matthew was serving his second tour in Iraq when he was killed by an IED. He served with the 1461st transportation company from his hometown of Jackson MI. Matthew was the lead gunner in his unit and had found an amazing 23 IED's , saving countless lives, and serving his country. He was one of eight children, and leaves behind an emptiness most can only imagine. This poem that was written by Matthew was found in his belongings that were sent home, and I just wanted to share it with you.

I am that which others do not want to be.
I went where others feared to go and did
what others failed to do.
I asked nothing from those who gave
nothing and painfully accepted the thought
of eternal loneliness...should I fail.
I have seen the face of terror, felt the
stinging cold of fear, and enjoyed the sweet
flavor of victory.
I have cried, pained, and hoped, but most of
all, I am living a time that others have forgotten.
At least some day I will be able to say that I
was proud of what I did and proud of who I am.
I fought for my country and I am "An American
Soldier.

As you salute our American hero's who are serving our country, please remember mine. He was my gift to all of you, and his name is Matthew.
God bless our troops, and God bless America.

Thank you, Shirley Soper, Matthew's momma
